Rather than come to KKCR, let KKCR come to you!
For years, KKCR has invited callers and guests to its studio to express viewpoints, opinions, concerns, and ideas on a wide range of topics. Now, KKCR has decided to come to you -- the community -- by launching a series of town hall meetings near your neighborhood.
Here's Why
One purpose of "Community Radio" is to provide a means for under-represented voices throughout the community to be heard - to encourage and facilitate a dialog that will help identify both the problems and the resources that can help solve the problems.
And yet Kaua'i is not a single community. It consists of many diverse individuals and neighborhoods that have unique challenges and problems that may be different from others. All voices in all neighborhoods deserve to be heard.
At the same time, there are unique and valuable resources within each neighborhood that may be able to help address concerns and problems in other neighborhoods.
By sharing concerns and ideas, perhaps individuals can gain insight from each other and can reach across neighborhood boundaries to help each other. In addition, they may be able to identify common concerns and problems and, with a single voice, appeal to government officials, businesses, and other organizations who can help.
By coming together to leverage the resource of Community Radio, individuals and neighborhoods can remain diverse and yet speak with the strength of a unified voice.
The Goals of the "Be Heard!" Town Hall Meetings are:
1) Gain a shared understanding of each others' unique concerns and problems, 2) Identify common concerns and problems, 3) Gain visibility into all the valuable resources around Kauai, wherever they exist in various neighborhoods, 4) Identify ways to connect resources to problems between neighborhoods, to help each other, and 5) Unify around common problems and join together across neighborhood boundaries to speak with the strength of one voice to ask for solutions - to gain the support of politicians, government officials, local businesses, and other organizations that are in a position to further help.
KKCR is offering its airwaves and web presence to help facilitate these goals.
The First Set of Meetings - Focused on the Current Economic Conditions - Has Now Concluded.
The first installment of the "Be Heard!" Town Hall Meetings focused on the economic downturn.
As we move towards the end of 2009 and on into 2010, KKCR will host similar meetings around Kauai on a periodic basis on other topics to be determined. If you have an idea for a topic, please email it to us by clicking here.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU AT A FUTURE MEETING... TO BE HEARD!
