Katy Rose
Out of The Box
Thursdays 4 - 5:30pm
Katy Rose grew up on the San Francisco Peninsula during the heady days of the Black Power, women’s liberation, gay, lesbian and transgender rights, and farm worker’s movements.
Her early introduction as a schoolgirl to desegregation in the public schools and the struggle against California’s notorious Proposition 6 began a lifetime passion for social and economic justice and radical activism. As a literature student at UC Berkeley in the 80’s, she participated in protests to demand UC divestment from South Africa’s apartheid government and an end to US support for right wing oppression in Latin America.
A former union organizer for the Hotel and Restaurant Employee’s Union in Montana, as well as the Montana Community-Labor Alliance, she now devotes her time to raising her children, helping with the family business (a small union construction company), surfing and joining with others to stand up up for the liberation of all oppressed people.
