BECOME A KKCR VOLUNTEER!

KKCR supports the preservation, perpetuation and celebration of the Hawaiian culture and encourages members of the Hawaiian community to get involved by becoming part of the KKCR `ohana. The station actively seeks volunteers to enhance and diversify its Hawaiian programming, including social, political, musical and cultural affairs. Anyone interested should contact KKCR to learn more about volunteer training and station policies, including codes of conduct and federal FCC guidelines. Feel free to complete our Volunteer Application located here. You may also get a Volunteer Application at KKCR.

KKCR is committed to providing a welcoming, safe, supportive and respectful environment for all volunteers, staff and visitors.

COMMUNITY RADIO ON THE GARDEN ISLAND
In the summer of 1997, KKCR broadcast its first signals island-wide. Our small community-based, non-profit radio station connects all the remote communities on the isolated Garden Island. KKCR is committed to providing relevant, accurate, timely information during times of crisis. It's also dedicated to representing the unique character of our island community.

KKCR's program schedule reflects the broad, rich spectrum of Kauaʻi's community. Musical genres include vintage and contemporary Hawaiian, Jazz, Alternative, Reggae, World, Classical, Rock and Blues. Kauaʻi Live features in-studio performances from local and visiting artists on Sunday evenings.

The Community Affairs programming includes weekly call-in talk shows - a Hawaiian Entertainment Calendar and a Community Calendar. Special interest programs include gardening, pets, health and wellness programs.

As a commercial-free, non-profit entity, KKCR's survival depends on support from our community - local and global. Please join KKCR's `ohana (family). To support listener-powered community radio, please click here.

Back Forward

We are excited to announce
KKCR's 2018 SPRING FUND DRIVE

The on-air drive will run from Noon, Tuesday, March 20th to Noon, Sunday, April 1st. Our goal is to raise $80,000. Your support allows us to preserve and expand independent, non-commercial, listener-supported community radio on Kauaʻi. Every day, thousands of listeners tune in to KKCR to be stimulated, educated and entertained by our volunteer programmers. We depend on special individuals who share our belief in the critical importance of KKCR's mission to preserve, perpetuate and celebrate Hawaiian culture, and to reflect the diversity of the local and world community by providing a forum for overlooked, suppressed, or under-represented voices and music.

There are many ways you can help us reach our goal:
KKCR EARLY BIRDS

It is very uplifting to start the fundraiser already having raised a substantial part of our goal. To entice you to donate before the drive starts, Havaiki Oceanic and Tribal Art Gallery in Hanalei has generously donated a Marquesan paddle, hand carved from Monkeypod wood with a retail value of $2,800.

Everyone who donates to KKCR from now until our drive starts on March 20th will automatically be entered into our Early Bird Drawing for a chance to win this exquisite Marquesan paddle. The winner will be announced on March 20th during Anoʻano with Manulele.

New sustaining and one time donations may be mailed in, called in or you may safely donate online here or call us at (808) 826-7774, or mail your donations to:
KKCR
P.O. Box 825
Hanalei, HI 96714

KKCR WAVERIDERS

For just a $175 donation you may become a KKCR Waverider! Your brief message will be aired during every live 2 hour program for the duration of our twelve day fund drive (Over 80 on-air mentions!). Waverider messages must comply with our underwriting guidelines.

This is a great way to get your business or event message out to the entire island of Kaua`i and support KKCR.

Call us at (808) 826-7774 for more information. Waverider Forms are available here: WAVERIDER FORM

CK (Cheryle Kelley)

My husband and I moved to Kauaʻi from Syracuse, New York in October, 2017. We had been frequent visitors since 2011, first coming in 1984 on our honeymoon. I am a retired investment advisor. My interests include travel, outdoor activities, music and cooking.

I happened upon KKCR during one of my early visits to Kauaʻi because the rental car's radio was tuned to the station. Whenever I came back to the island, I immediately located KKCR's signal and left the radio tuned there. The station's homepage does a great job of explaining what KKCR is all about and once we decided to move here, one of the first things I planned to do was volunteer. KKCR's mission and the variety of programming were the inspiration.

My previous broadcasting experience was as a program host at Wellesley College's WZLY during my junior and senior years. The station's slogan: "The wild side of Wellesley College….take a walk there."

My favorite programs are Saturday and Sunday Classics and the morning Hawaiian music hours.

My volunteer experience has been exceptional. I am really enjoying myself. Honestly, the folks at KKCR are welcoming and supportive. It's a professional place with an emphasis on the mission of celebrating the Hawaiian culture and serving the people of Kauaʻi. My advice to anyone who is thinking about volunteering is to give it a try.

My show, "The Beat", is a mix of rock, R&B and soul. The music I play is chosen to make listeners (and me) smile, move and sing along. I tend to look for selections that I think have a type of permanence. However, the music I enjoy crosses boundaries and genres. I hear similarities between the compositions of Sting and Johannes Brahms so I'm liable to play some unusual tracks mixed in with the standard cuts. The aim of "The Beat" is to spread good feelings.

Mahalo nui to everyone who made their 2017 year-end tax-deductible donations. A special mahalo from everyone at KKCR to Sir Harry Greyball from the grave (shown left). Sir Harry loved KKCR and its diverse programming. His $500 donation demonstrates the value that those of us who have travelled the road less travelled put on KKCR.
