With heavy hearts we let the people know that JAHmanT.R.A. has transitioned to the other side on April 14, 2024 at 4:20am. He was a long time volunteer at Kaua’i Community Radio and had a firm commitment to reggae music. He lived a creative life and fought a long battle with cancer. Written by his friend and reggae co-conspirator, Willy Judah:
ManTRA was a volunteer on Kaua’i Community Radio since the very beginning. His passion was radio and reggae music. He devoted his whole life to the sounds of reggae music, and even performed his own reggae music. Constantly advocating for reggae and inspiration ManTRA held down Because of H.I.M. Reggae program on Sunday nights from 8 to 10 PM where he featured some of the classic reggae songs from old plus dub and reggae history. He was definitely a corner stone of this radio station and he will be forever missed. Rest in peace. Jah ManTRA.
KKCR has partnered with KISC to produce the Invasive Informant! We are lucky to have these folks on the airwaves giving us the information we need to keep our island home free from plant and animal invasives.
In partnership with Friends of Kauaʻi Wildlife Refuges, this year we are producing a series of monthly radio spots to educate members of our community about the many species they help protect. Click here to listen to all of the National Wildlife Refuge Minutes.
The brand new KKCR App is available at the APPLE APP STORE and GOOGLE PLAY STORE. Listen to the live feed and archives, pause and rewind the live audio, view the program schedule, donate and wake up to KKCR with the alarm clock! You can also send us a voice memo!
Updating KKCR’s Strategic Plan will help us develop the right goals and targets for KKCR and help keep everyone’s efforts focused on meeting them.
As stated by Jerry Brocklehurst in the current Strategic Plan: “By joining together, we can all help the station become what it wants to be and what the community needs it to be – a forum for overlooked, suppressed, and under-represented voices, issues and music, free from the control of commercial and political interests, that reflects the broad, rich spectrum of Kaua‘i’s unique community and promotes the creative, cultural, and political vitality of the community… a station that also preserves, perpetuates, and celebrates Hawaiian culture and that stimulates, educates, and entertains its audience and provides relevant, accurate, and timely information throughout beautiful days on Kaua‘i as well as in times of crisis.” Click here to view the current Strategic Plan.

Talk Story, known in Hawaiʻi as moʻolelo, is the tradition of personally sharing important stories to preserve them for future generations.
KKCR’s Talk Story Series is an ongoing cultural preservation project focusing on Hawaiian musicians who share their stories and songs for present and future generations. Kauaʻi Community Radio’s mission to preserve, perpetuate and celebrate Hawaiian Culture is fulfilled in part by our production of the Talk Story Series. Funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, KKCR has produced 31 Talk Story CDs since 2001 featuring Hawaiian musicians performing and talking story.
