Nowelo I Kaua\u2018i Kuapapa<\/strong> is a cultural educational series which highlights Kaua\u2018i\u2019s wahi pana, or storied and celebrated places, through mele pule, mele oli and mele hula \u2013 prayers, chants and dances that have been entrusted to the lineage of Kaipuwai. Kumu Hula K\u0113haulani Kekua is a revered cultural practitioner and master teacher of traditional hula, born and raised on Kaua\u2018i. As the hiapo, or firstborn in her family, she was reared in the custom of h\u0101nai \u2013 freely given to be nurtured and groomed in hula by her maternal grandmother, Helen Kaipuwai Kekua Waiau. It is through her, that K\u0113haulani inherited her family’s generations-old lineage and practices of Kaua\u2018i hula traditions.<\/p>\n
