Concerts with a Cause

Our friends at Anaina Hou Community Park are launching an initiative this year where they are going to host shows and give a portion of the tickets sales to a local nonprofit organization. What a cool way to spread the good vibes.
Their first Concert with a Cause was on January 25 for the King Tide Tour, which featured Shane Hall and Tavana. A couple of us went to the show to bring some KKCR energy to the event. We distributed some Talk Story cds to happy people and tossed a bunch of KKCR stickers to attendees, but the most important part was us LISTENING to people. We had a big piece of paper with some questions on it relating to community media:
1. Where do you get local news? 2. How much time per week do you spend with media? 3. Do you trust local media sources? 4. Do you engage with local media? 5. How do you listen to KKCR? radio/app/web? 6. What Kauaʻi issues need more news coverage? 7. Whatʻs your favorite music genre?
Weʻre going to be asking these questions quite a bit in the coming months because we want to LISTEN to YOU. What do you think of the efficacy of community media? Where do you think we can step it up? How much do you know about what community media can do for a small island? Do you want to geek out about it with us?
In other news, Shane Hall and Tavana were amazing performers and I look forward to hearing them on our airwaves.
