Start your week plugged in! Tech Tides: Innovation Waves brings the world of technology home to Kaua'i every Monday morning. Your host, "Tsunami Soren," brings a tidal wave of tech knowledge and breaks it down so everyone can understand it. Soren is a true child of the island — he first came to Kaua'i in 1978 when his father practiced medicine in Kapa'a, attended Kilauea Elementary and Kapa'a High School, then headed to the mainland to study Computer and Electrical Engineering at Purdue University. He went on to earn his MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management, and because he never stops riding the wave, he's currently pursuing his Master's in Computer Science online at Georgia Tech. From there, he helped launch the internet era, working with pioneers like Netscape and Sun Microsystems, and went on to spend more than 30 years as a leading technology transformation consultant. He led major system overhauls for clients in banking, healthcare, retail, and government, and was at the forefront of putting mobile technology to practical use for organizations around the world. He was also hired to test and break into the cybersecurity defenses of major corporations and government and military systems — so when he talks about keeping your data safe, he knows exactly what the bad guys are looking for. Today, Soren is leveraging AI to help businesses improve the value they deliver to their customers. Throughout his career, the throughline has always been the same: take leading-edge technology and find practical, profitable uses for it. Now permanently back home on the North Shore, Tsunami Soren is turning that world-class experience into something for our community. Each week he breaks down the latest in AI, cybersecurity, smart devices, and emerging tech — no jargon, no hype, just practical knowledge you can actually use. Whether you're a company looking for a competitive edge, an organization trying to modernize, or just someone who wants to understand the tech that's changing the world around you, Tech Tides connects global innovation to local island life. Soren's mission is the same one that's driven his entire career: helping people surf the wave of technology rather than being swallowed by it. Got a tech question? Send it to tsunamisoren@kkcr.org and Tsunami Soren will tackle it on the air. Whether you're running a shop in Kapa'a, tending land on the North Shore, or just trying to make sense of the latest update on your phone, this show is for you. Grab your coffee, tune in, and ride the wave.

Sunset Jazz with Richard Sunset Jazz is a blend of Classic Jazz and The Best of New Modern Jazz - KEEPING JAZZ ALIVE - ONE TUNE AT A TIME JAZZ, THE NOBLE SOUND, LIVES @ KKCR-Kauai Community Radio Sunset Jazz Playlists A World of Jazz with Tom Playlists A World of Jazz - We've all heard that jazz is THE unique art form in the United States. I would say that differently. Jazz was named in the US, in New Orleans, but its roots began in the combination of the rhythm and "feel" of African music, with the harmony and instruments of European music. While improvisation happens in both traditions, Africans often found their own unique ways of playing instruments more expressively. Since its beginnings, Jazz has been cross pollinated by music from Brazil, Asia, and many other places. Some folks say that Jazz is dead. Indeed in my lifetime, I’m sad to say we’ve lost many masters, but we have new blood not only from Jazz families like Marsalis, Coltrane, and Monk, but from the schools and streets all over the US, and all around the world. Jazz has evolved over generations and in continuing to incorporate elements of Cuban (Dizzy Gillespie and Chano Pozo for example), Samba (Jobim, Almeida, Airto & Purim for example), Fusion, Funk, Hiphop, and other music. Jazz remains alive and well thanks to this growth and diversity. In this technological age we live in, many carry a library of music in their pocket. Cars connect to satellite “radio” with computer-algorithm-curated playlists. The reason to listen to radio like KKCR is to hear what you haven’t already heard before and won’t hear anywhere else. I could be happy enough playing Miles, Trane, Diz, Bird, Cannonball all night, but what I really enjoy is a mix with less meat and potatoes and more spice. In A World of Jazz, I want to share both the roots and fruits of jazz, an inclusive music without borders that celebrates the diversity of the cultures of this island chain I live on.
