The First Annual Pa’ina at Anaina Hou
Written by Anni Caporuscio on July 29, 2024
I said it a few times on the mic from the Porter Pavilion last weekend and I think it still rings true: It takes a village to make a community. It’s ultimately non-sensical to say unless you remember that “taking a village” means “all of us”. The Pa’ina is to raise funds for the maintenance and expansion of the Playground at Anaina Hou. The whole facility exists to bring the north shore community together, to bring entertainment, communion, unity, and someday hopefully a fire station and a Resilience Center to provide safe haven in disasters and emergencies.
But that’s all too serious. The Pa’ina featured games, bounce houses, water slides, old school video games, basket weaving, ponies, snacks, MAGIC SHOWS (!!) and your good old community radio station. We spun records and simulcasted onto the KKCR airwaves right from the pavilion. Thanks to the many volunteers that made it all happen, including announcers, record spinners, in-station volunteers and the like. Thanks the most to Aisha for bringing her turn tables and dreaming up our participation in such a cool event.
Thanks for inviting us, Anaina Hou. It does take a village.
